Against All Odds:  The Art of the Highwaymen

Summer Events Tampa Bay Florida Highwaymen Painting

via Flickr :: Larry Miller

The Highwaymen are a group of African-American painters that have traveled the Florida landscape, painted it, and sold it on the highway.  This group of artists were oftentimes viewed as illegitimates in the art community – though very talented and self-trained.  I personally remember seeing these men during our family travels selling their art on the side of the roads.
The Highwaymen art is some of my favorite creations in the art world.  It is honest, down to earth, and it reflects my homeland.  Do not miss it.
