Dade City is the perfect day trip.  It is a good 1-1/2 hours drive from St Petersburg and most of Pinellas county. It is only about an hour from Tampa. Dade City is one of those small towns that cropped up as a military fort over a century ago. Dade City is known for three things, the Kumquat Festival, the perfect place for group bike rides and ladies day trips for shopping and lunch. I have been visiting Dade City since I was a young teen. Which is, well, a long time ago. The nice thing is Dade City, despite all of its growth over the years, still feels like a small town. Its main drag is peppered with vintage stores, antique shoppes and bistros just ripe for your visit. By the way, a kumquat is a small citrus fruit, oval in shape with a sweet skin, tart flesh eaten whole– best eaten as you are picking it fresh from the tree. Dade City has a lot of them, too.

Lunch on Limoges

14139 South 7th Street
Dade City, Florida 33525

Lunch on Limoge was my first young lady luncheon with my mother and her friends. It was a church Mother’s Day outing and all the ladies of the church climbed on board the old church bus. It rumbled down the highway and pulled up in front of Lunch on Limoge. I remember the lunch to be fabulous, magical and everything ladylike that could ever be imagined. I even remember the tiny tea rose that was on the side of the luncheon plate. I think that event was the turning point in my young life when I realized that mom was pretty neat. Mom is gone now, been in Heaven over a decade, but I will never forget that Mother’s Day luncheon in Dade City. To this day I never visit Dade City without visiting Lunch on Limoge.

  1. Wonderful article about Dade City, Audra — thank you.
The Annual Kumquat Festival will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Past festivals have attracted 40,000 attendees, 430 vendors and 40 sponsors to Downtown Dade City for the Day. I would be happy to provide you with more information this fall.
    Appreciate your kind words!!
